Is the Sony SA-W2500 a Good Subwoofer For The Price?
The Sony SA-W2500 is an inexpensive 8 inch powered subwoofer. While the majority of the reviews on Amazon are positive, I can't help but notice that many of the reviewers who gave it low star ratings commented on the lack of power and the fact that the sound can have quite a bit of dissonance to it.
That being said, it can be a good subwoofer if you are primarily concerned about cost and just want to add a little bit of bass to your setup. If you want quality, there are quite a few subwoofers priced just a little higher that offer a good deal more power and accuracy in the sound quality.

Review of the Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer
The PSW111 is a great 8 inch subwoofer from Polk Audio. While not as powerful as the PSW505 it definitely packs a punch for the small size. The quality of the audio is also very clear and with speaker level, line level, and LFE inputs it is very easy to use.

Review of the Polk Audio PSW505 12 Inch Subwoofer
The Polk Audio PSW505 is a great 12" subwoofer with plenty of power. The audio from the PSW505 is very clear and tight and capable of filling a moderately large room with bassy goodness. The amp in this powered woofer is rated for 300 watts of continuous use, so you can be sure the sub will deliver enough thump to anger the neighbors.
Of course a downside of this is that if you live in a small apartment or dorm this subwoofer might actually be too powerful to handle.
